A Moment In Time

Moulton Barn in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming. The Tetons are my absolute favorite mountains; I smile stupidly whenever I am around them. I don’t have any tattoos yet, but when I do, the Tetons will be a part of it. They are the youngest mountains in the Rockies, formed around 2 million years ago. This magnificent formation serves as a reminder that humans are a small part of Earth’s history – it is not ours to monetize.

Sunset Sonder

A meandering creek in Rainer National Park, Washington. Mt. Rainier is the most glaciated mountain in the contiguous US. These glaciers, under threat from climate change, are a crucial supply of fresh water for multiple major rivers in the region.

Chattahoochee Dreamin’

Sunset on the beautiful Chattahoochee River that flows through north Georgia. A favorite fishing spot of mine, there are abundant parks along the banks of this river.

The Devil Wears a Suit And Tie

One of my favorite natural landmarks: Devil’s Tower in Wyoming. This shot was my first time seeing it in person, and the sheer magnitude of this tower against the completely silent winter background was a powerful experience. This shot is extra special to me, as it was the very first shot I took with my Nikon Z5 – marking the beginning of this chapter in my photography journey.

A Walk In the park

Another special shot for me – the first shot I took my first time in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. This day kicked off a 6-week sabbatical I was fortunate enough to be able to take in 2020 – a reward for 7 years of service to my employer. With COVID in full swing, the timing could not have been more perfect – no better way to social distance than a trip to national parks!

A Big Si Of Relief

Just east of Seattle, sister-mountains Big Si and Little Si provide spectacular views and recreation, and abundant wildlife habitat. I spent a lot of time around here in the Seattle chapter of my life, fishing the Snoqualmie River and Lake Sammamish, hiking the trails, and sometimes just reading a book in this open field next to Big Si.

Appalachian Lakeside

The Appalachian Mountains are one of the oldest mountain ranges on Earth; in fact, the Appalachians, the Scottish Highlands, and Little Atlas of Morocco used to all be one mountain range on Pangea! One of the most ecologically diverse regions in North America, our slice of the Appalachians in north Georgia create some spectacular sunsets!

History, Frozen

Badlands National Park in South Dakota. The various peaks and valleys of the park are a result of extreme water and wind erosion. The layers of color exposed are snapshots of time; different periods dating all the way back to when South Dakota was actually an ocean floor.

Power Play

Snoqualmie Falls in Snoqualmie, Washington. A regular stomping ground in my Seattle days, this area is relatively unadulterated and has some beautiful hiking trails. The falls itself power a clean, renewable hydroelectric plant to generate 53 megawatts, enough to power an impressive 40,000 homes. It is one of the oldest hydroelectric plants in the US.

Quiet Reflection

A peaceful setting at Red Top Mountain State Park, right by my home in Marietta, Georgia. Once a major iron mining area, the park still offers iron pouring sessions where you can make your own cast iron!

Your Horizon Awaits

Another shot from beautiful Badlands National Park in South Dakota. Reading the color bands of these formations and the millions of years they represent truly puts into perspective that the human experience is fleeting – so make it count.

Breathe

One of my favorite vibes. Mid-afternoon, walking along a creek in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and the air was so crisp, inviting deep breaths and relaxation. Stresses have a tendency to melt away into the water when you spend time by a river.

SO Close, yet so far

As the sunset announced the closing moments of a beautiful summer day, the contrast between the lush green pine swaying in the wind, and the rugged, immovable Rocky Mountain ridgeline. All things in balance.

Earth Tones

When I was a kid, the colors that come to mind when you think “earth tones” were my favorite – bright greens and deep blues. I love chances to capture green and blue contrasts in landscape shots. This shot was taken in a peaceful forest in Rocky Mountain National Park, while listening to the quiet babbling of the creek – one of the best sounds on earth.

Be The Anti-Greed

For decades, Pine Log Wildlife Management Area has been an ecologically diverse haven for outdoors(wo)men and wildlife alike. A popular public lands tract leased to the state of Georgia, the family is now threatening to sell the land to private developers for commercialization – if Georgia doesn’t pay what they want. Georgia has already offered enough to make the family rich for generations to come – but they want more, and Pine Log may cease to exist if the family sells to developers for more money.

How much does one family actually need, and at one cost is it worth?
